THE GOLDEN MORNING

This beautiful day started two weeks ago on a Thursday. I parked my car near the entrance and started recording with my POV camera, as this was going to be a new POV video for my YouTube channel. In these POVs, I take you along on my photography journey.

In this blog, I’ll be referring to the Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen as the AWD. Now, let’s continue.

I have to admit, I was skeptical about this day—afraid I wouldn’t find any wildlife. But as I took my first steps into the AWD, I surprisingly stumbled upon my first fallow deer, one of many that day. I didn’t take any photographs at that moment because the lighting was too dark.

The fallow deer in the AWD are very tame and used to people, which comes in handy for photography. I was able to get rather close to them and capture some great shots.

As much as I love photographing fallow deer, my main goal for this journey was to get a red fox in front of my lens.

The plan for today was to make a “quick” loop: starting at the entrance, walking to the open field, and on my way back, passing through the forest.

I put “quick” in quotes because I ended up walking for about three hours! :)

As each step turned into meters, my photography eye warmed up rather quickly. My fingers instinctively pressed the shutter, capturing this first shot of the day: the moon.

Before I knew it, I was walking on a sand road and had wandered off into a hilly landscape.

An hour had passed when I spotted two fallow deer grazing behind a small hill. Luckily, the wind was in my favor, so I snuck up on them.

Quietly and slowly, I got closer.

They began to notice me when I carelessly snapped a few sticks.

I quickly took photographs, enjoying their company. I decided to continue when the sun started to come through, and it was spectacular.

The hilly landscape slowly transformed into a safari-like scene bathed in golden light. I took my chance and started capturing this breathtaking atmosphere.

Every now and then, there were small patches of forest. As I approached one, I noticed a fallow deer grazing among the trees.

I was surprised when I looked closer and saw a large group of fallow deer just relaxing there. Trying not to spook them, I kept my distance. It was a beautiful sight.

As I continued down the route, still hoping to find a red fox, the kilometers started to add up. Before I knew it, I was walking on a forest path when my gut feeling told me to check behind a small hill on my left. So I did.

That's where I found this beautiful fallow deer grazing alone.

My trip came to an end after this photo.

Finding a fox isn’t something you do every day, but I felt lucky with the amazing weather. I guess that’s my excuse to go again!

If there’s one thing I've learned from this day, it’s to enjoy and be in the moment.

Cheers for sticking around and reading this blog. Thank you for your support! I’ll catch you in the next one :)
